I've read some of the articles in your forum and gathered that I may need a larger capacity pump for my system. Our basement stays dry until we get a monsoon rain, which has happened a couple of times this year, then we'll end up with an inch or two of water through out the basement. We currently have 1/3hp pump that was installed by Basement Systems. The water is channeled by the tiles also installed by them. I called them and was told that moving up in pump size probably would not do the trick, and that I should have them come out to install a second pit with a secondary 1/3 hp pump that would only come on when the level of water got to high and overflowed into the new pit.I'm wondering if I should go ahead and pay the $850 they're asking to do the second pit or should I just install a 1/2hp pump to move more water and save $400? What would you do?Bobby
Increasing the pump size is probably not the solution - bigger is not always better. A 1/3 hp pump should be enough. Let me use a different scenerio to help you understand the...

would installing a sump pit/pump allow outside water to migrate to the pit w/o having to install an internal basement drainage system...would the rising water table that creates more hydrostatic pressure during heavy spring rains be drawn to this pit vs through the walls/floor?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. Water will follow the path of least resistance. Without a drainage system to create the path of least resistance, you will likely experience t...
